Summer is in full swing—and it’s the perfect time to nourish your body and embrace the vibrant energy of the sun!
In this email, we are so excited to share some powerful health insights inspired by the work of Weston A. Price! His research on ancestral living and traditional diets reveals how nutrient-dense, whole foods play a vital role in supporting lifelong health—especially when it comes to building strong bodies and healthy teeth.
This Month’s Resources
Weston A. Price
Weston A. Price was a Cleveland-based dentist in the early 20th century who became known for his research into the relationship between nutrition and physical health. He traveled the world extensively to study traditional diets of various isolated populations, concluding that people who ate nutrient-dense, whole foods—such as raw dairy, wild caught seafood, pasture-raised animal fats (like butter, tallow, and lard, organ meats), bone broths, and fermented products—had superior dental and overall health compared to those consuming modern processed foods. His findings are the core of the Weston A. Price Foundation, which promotes whole, traditional foods and holistic health practices.
“The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) is your source for accurate information on nutrition and health, always aiming to provide the scientific validation of traditional foodways. People seeking health today often condemn certain food groups — such as grains, dairy foods, meat, salt, fat, sauces, sweets and nightshade vegetables — but the Wise Traditions Diet is inclusive, not exclusive.” Not only is the WAPF talking about food and ancestral diets nowadays, but they are also diving into topics such as non-native electromagnetic fields (5G, Wi-Fi, cell phone towers, etc.), environmental toxins, vaccinations, mental and emotional health, and children’s health.
11 Wise Traditions
- Avoid all refined and denatured foods.
- Include animal foods.
- Emphasize nutrient–dense foods: organ meats, animal fats, eggs, raw dairy, shellfish, fish liver oils and fish eggs.
- Eat some animal food raw; cook most plant foods.
- Enjoy lacto-fermented condiments and beverages.
- Prepare seeds, grains, and nuts properly to minimize anti-nutrients and enhance digestibility.
- Enjoy saturated fats; avoid industrial seed oils (Know Your Fats).
- Consume animal foods from land and sea to balance omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Use unrefined salt liberally.
- Include gelatinous bone broth in soups, stews, gravy and sauces.
- Emphasize nutrient-dense foods before and during pregnancy, and for growing babies.
Native Diets vs. Modern Diets
The first photo shows indigenous people on native diets while the second shows indigenous people on modern diets. It’s clear that native diets are superior. Dr. Price consistently found that people who adhered to their native diets were free of physical degeneration, structural deformities, and disease. These people are typical of indigenous cultures everywhere who avoid modern eating habits. They all have well-developed skeletal structures, including well-developed, perfectly proportioned facial bones. This facilitates broad dental arches and nasal passages and perfectly aligned jaws and teeth, and helps optimize respiration, digestion, and other metabolic function. Physical deformities and chronic disease become rapidly apparent in the indigenous that consume modern diets. These changes take place within a single generation (see second photo).
