This Month’s Resources
Elevate Akron
You have probably heard us mention this organization before… Elevate Akron hosts premier yoga festivals as well as small neighborhood programs that engage, connect, and celebrate our local community members, artists, businesses, and nonprofits in the greater Akron area. They develop connection, resiliency, and wellbeing in their community by offering accessible yoga programing, education and resources for all. This years event will be held on Thursday, July 14. Optimal Wellness will be a sponsor of the event and also have a table to promote what we are up to and meet lots of yogis! We will also be doing some drawings for you to potentially win a free year of our yoga subscription OR a $100 discount on next years Costa Rica wellness retreat.
Remember those “Nasty Oils?”
“The hateful eight.” Canola (rapeseed), corn, cottonseed, grapeseed, rice bran, safflower, soy, and sunflower oils are all toxic to the human body. They’re blamed for a host of ills, such as headaches, foggy thinking, lowered immunity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and more. And on the flip side, #seedoilfree proponents say that steering clear of these vegetable oils can fight disease, help you lose weight, and ramp up energy. All oils contain a combination of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, and saturated fats to varying degrees. With most seed oils, a type of polyunsaturated fats called omega-6s dominate. The high proportion is one of the main reasons some people suggest you skip seed oils. Oils that we recommend cooking with are avocado oil (one of the only oils that can stand high heat), grass-fed butter, or tallow. Learn more here.
Another HIGHLY recommended book
Inner Engineering by Sadhguru. “Inner Engineering is a technology for well-being derived from the science of Yoga. It is offered as a comprehensive course for personal growth that brings about a shift in the way you perceive and experience your life, your work, and the world that you live in.” Sadhguru is a Yogi, Mystic and Visionary. Named one of India’s 50 most influential people, Sadhguru’s work has touched the lives of millions worldwide through his transformational programs. Sadhguru has a unique ability to make the ancient yogic sciences relevant to contemporary minds. His approach does not ascribe to any belief system, but offers powerful and proven methods for self-transformation.
Don’t forget about this new class!

Starting next week, this class will be moved to TUESDAYS 5:30-6:45 PM. The first Tuesday class is June 28.
