Why an Anti-Inflammatory Diet?

An anti-inflammatory diet is a way of selecting and preparing anti-inflammatory foods based on scientific knowledge of how they can help your body maintain optimum health. It is becoming increasingly clear that chronic inflammation is the root cause of many serious illnesses – including heart disease, many cancers, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Evidence suggests that over time inflammation sets the foundation for many serious, age-related diseases. This includes heart disease, cancer and neurodegenerative conditions. Whole-body inflammation may also contribute to psychological disorders, especially depression. Learn more on the importance of an inflammatory diet from Dr. Andrew Weil here.

Dairy Free Nacho Cheese

“Everyone like nachos; which is great for vegan nachos, because this cheese sauce isn’t trying to be cheese, it’s trying to be that fun gooey cheese sauce from a packed football stadium; which, let’s face it, isn’t, actually, really, cheese at all.” This recipe is a healthy alternative to the nacho cheese that you know and love. Do not get thrown off by the carrots and potatoes. And definitely do not forget the nooch (nutritional yeast)!

A Kitchen Favorite

A frequently asked question as a personal trainer is “what blender do you use?” A Vitamix, of course! They offer a line of products that promote whole-food consumption, they help limit food waste, and they are built to last.

A Vitamix is something that will assist you in making not only smoothies and frozen desserts but also the nacho cheese recipe shown above, soups, baby food, doughs, nut butters, batters, dressings, sauces, nut-milks, dips, spreads, and more! “Vitamix doesn’t make the every-once-in-a-while margarita mixer that’s stored away nine months out of the year. We make use-mine-every-day, can’t-live-without-it, commercial-grade blenders.”
