This Month’s Resources

Tallow

What is it?? Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, primarily made up of triglycerides and it happens to be one of the best moisturizers. The oil in our skin shares many of the same fatty acids with tallow, making it nearly impossible to beat. Our cell membranes are made up of fatty acids. They are ~50% saturated fat. Tallow’s make up is almost identical, which nourishes cell membranes and keeps your skin moisturized. The vitamins and fat can nourish your skin and kill unwanted microbes. It’s basically natures botox!

Tallow is much more than just a moisturizer though… it can replace: lotion, night cream, wrinkle cream, Neosporin, diaper balm, and more! It has also shown effectiveness against rashes, hives, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, and even diaper rash. Tallow also contains antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, helps soothe skin injuries, has antimicrobial properties, and can help produce collagen.

We love a brand out of Michigan called Native Elements (ElderNHoneyCoGifts on Etsy). They make a tallow based face moisturizer called Glow that has some essential oils and it is one of the best face moisturizers we have ever used! Vanman also makes an outstanding Tallow and Honey Balm (as well as other great products).

Another AMAZING Podcast

The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the most popular podcasts in the world, and for good reason! It features long-form conversations with a wide range of guests, including actors, scientists, authors, politicians, and more, covering topics such as science, culture, politics, and current events. In a recent episode Joe has Andrew Huberman (one of our favorite health/wellness podcasters) on for an almost 3 hour conversation about topics such as nutrition, pollution, cold exposure, training, psychedelics, and more science related things!

Andrew Huberman, PhD, is a neuroscientist and tenured professor at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. Andrew is also the host of the Huberman Lab podcast, which aims to help viewers and listeners improve their health with science and science-based tools.

A2A2 Milk

Never heard of it? We hadn’t either until recently! A2A2 milk comes from cows that have a specific, more digestible protein. Many people who experience discomfort or get ill from regular milk can drink A2A2 milk without any negative side effects. The A2A2 milk protein varies from the A1 milk protein by one amino acid. This one amino acid difference makes all the difference in the world, by creating a shorter stranded A2A2 protein.  With the A2A2 protein being a shorter protein, this makes it easier to be digested. After learning about this milk, we were able to find another local dairy farm in Ohio called Buckeye Country Creamery. Here they go into more detail on A2A2, VAT pasteurization, and non-homononginzation. If you are local to Ohio, you can find their milk in over 100+ locations.
